My Thoughts:

It was the perfect time for my daughter and I to read this book. We've been working on the alphabet a lot recently (she's almost got it down!) so we were really happy to read this. This book makes learning the alphabet fun. The letters are brought to life with very colorful and creative illustrations. Along with each illustration, there is a little rhyme that goes along with it that explains how to write the letters. I think this is very helpful when learning and memorizing. I still remember rhymes that I was taught when I was a youngster. 8x8 is 64, shut your mouth and say no more! ;)

I think this book is a really fun tool to use if you're working with a child on learning or writing the letters of the alphabet. Get your kids excited about learning! We are waiting to meet the lowercase letters now!

My Thoughts:

I really found myself enjoying this book. My favorite thing about this book was the relationship between Victor and Tristan. (In the beginning I kept thinking that Tristan was going to be a boy.) Victor is very tolerant and patient with his little sister and always treats her very well. Tristan is a very sweet and innocent little girl who doesn't always think logically but I liked that about her. There is a very strong bond between the two. They have the type of relationship that I hope my children will have with each other. While I loved the kids, I hated strongly disliked their parents. In the beginning I mostly *disliked* their father but in the end I think that the mother was even worse! The other kids in the neighborhood were snotty little brats, nothing like Victor and Tristan.

Victor, Tristan, and their new friend John end up in a totally different world full of magic and danger. This book is full of things that really make you think. For example, if a man made machine has emotions and a mind of its own should it be treated as a person or is it still just a machine? What if this machine is willing to die for the people it loves? I don't really know what else to say about this book without giving away too much other than I really enjoyed it. There better be a sequel though because the ending left me thinking WTF?!?!

My Thoughts:

I'm back with another book by Julia Dweck! Pandora is different from all of the other penguins. One day she falls through the ice and finds a box. She wants to find out what is inside but all of the others think that it is a bad idea to open it. After see how important it is for Pandora, the other penguins decide to believe in her and help her get the box open. When the mystery box pops open, they are all pleasantly surprised with its contents.

My daughter loved this story, especially the surprise that was hidden in the box. I loved the rhyming flow of the words and the illustrations are cute. We should all believe in and help out the ones that we love. I'm also glad that Pandora was different from the others and had a mind of her own. I really push my kids to be themselves rather than trying to be like everyone else. The people who truly love and care about you will love you for who you really are and it's OK to be different. The best you that you can possibly be is yourself.

My Thoughts:

Blue lives in a home with a family full of psychics and is the only one who does not have the ability. But one night while in a churchyard, she sees a boy's spirit. This means that he is either her true love or that she killed him. She never thought that she would ever associate with a Raven Boy but finds herself drawn to a group of them.

This is the first book I have read by Maggie Stiefvater and I am absolutely in love with her writing style already. The characters were all very well developed. I felt like I knew each and every one of them and they were all unique and had their own distinct voice. A lot of people have mentioned that they didn't care for the character names in this book but I actually enjoyed them. They were very different from the names we usually see. I never once had a hard time keeping track of who was who, and I really enjoyed knowing the background of each character.

This book just sucked me in and spit me out wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I would definitely recommend that you check this book out if this is a genre that you enjoy. Oh! I have to mention that this book has an absolutely beautiful cover! The picture doesn't quite show how pretty it is in person.

The Zombie-Kids are back and they're going green! (So should you!) This is another great monster story by Julia Dweck! We are a monster-lovin' family! My daughter has two movies that she always wants to watch, Monster High and Hotel Transylvania. So it's pretty obvious that we were destined to love this book. Who doesn't love monsters!? Especially environmentally friendly monsters!

If your munchkins like monsters then this is a great way to get them interested in recycling and taking care of our wonderful planet! Plus it's an eBook . . . no trees were harmed in the making of this story. *hehe* Although I secretly do wish that these books were in print because I'd love to add them to our collection. The illustrations in the book were wonderful! Another 5 star book by Dweck! I highly recommend that you check this author out, you won't be disappointed! Just do it, you know you want to! :)

This post is going to be a little different from my normal book reviews but I figured it would be fun to talk about something other than books for today! I originally wanted to test out a pair of wrap around sunglasses but they weren't available for review so I decided to get these glasses with a brown 80% tint.  Here is a picture of what they sent me. I was happily surprised when I realized that the glasses came with a hard case, a cleaning cloth, a screwdriver, and a soft case. The soft case is really nice and thick and seems to be of really good quality. They seem to work really well and block out the sun nicely. I really like my glasses so far and I think I may go back to order those wrap around sunglasses that I wanted in the beginning. I have a tough time with sunglasses they always seem to be too wide for my face. Seriously, the pair of sunglasses that I own that fit me the best are for ages 3 and up. I swear, I'm like the size of a kindergartner. *hehe* Does anyone else have that problem?

This was a very fast read, the main part of the book was less than 100 pages, but I found it to be interesting. Some of the statistics in this book were surprising to me. For example, it says that 83% of Americans are Christian but only 33% of the world's population are Christian. That means that there are a lot of Christians here in our country who if they band together, according to Prewitt, could save our country from the critical condition it is in right now.

I think this would be an interesting read for all the American Christians out there.

This story is pretty cute and is written by a 9 year old girl. I really enjoy reading books that are written by children. The one thing that threw me off a little was that although rodeo was in the title, there was no rodeo in the book. There is a shootout in the story but it involves shooting targets not each other which I was happy about. I try to refrain from exposing my munchkins to violence as much as possible so that was nice!

The illustrations, done by the author's uncle, were excellent. I really hope that Miss Wright continues to write books and has her uncle illustrate. They seem like a great team and, in my opinion, have a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing if this young girl has more writing in her future.

My Thoughts:

I really don't have any idea what to say about this book. At first I didn't like it because the author reveals things slowly, bit by bit, and I felt like I didn't really understand what was going on. But I think that's the way the author intended it to be.

MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS: Basically these kids live in a private school, sheltered from the world and are told that they are different, they are special. They are really clones that are raised just to be organ donors and then die. That is their purpose in life. They can't reproduce. They become carers, donors, and then their life is over.

This book was pretty sad actually. These kids don't really even question their lives or fight to try and change it. It really makes you think. If this is how it was in our world would we just see it as normal or that it's just the way things are? If we could have an endless supply of healthy organs to save our lives would we become alright with it?

I didn't actually have an opinion formed on whether or not I liked this book until I was done reading it. It seems like most people either love it or hate it. When I was done reading I kept thinking about this book so the story stayed with me and the more I thought about it the more I realized I liked the story.

So I think that his book is either a hit or miss, you'll either love it or hate it. My advice would be to try and find it at your library, borrow it from a friend, or find it at a cheap price somewhere just in case you are one of the people who don't like it.

My daughter's favorite flea was BeauteeFlea because she is pink of course, and my daughter loves anything that's pink. You would never guess all of the different kinds of fleas your pets could have living on them.

Julia Dweck has an amazing talent. She can take a normally boring subject, such as fleas, and turn it into an adorable, fun book. And as always she works with wonderful illustrators that bring her stories to life.

My Thoughts:

Jude raises her twins Mia and Zach with their best interests at heart. She is a little overprotective at times but that's because she loves them and doesn't ever want anything to happen to them. Jude only wants the best for her children. When Mia, a shy friendless girl, brings home Lexi, a foster child, they instantly become friends and Jude welcomes her into their family. When Zach and Mia fall in love, the trio becomes inseparable. But one night will completely change all of their lives, forever . . .

My mom recommended this book to me and I'm SO happy she did. I am absolutely in love with this book and I will definitely be thinking about it for a very long time. It's a beautiful story. The characters and the story were very believable so it made it really easy to feel what they were feeling. It definitely takes your emotions for a ride. I was laughing one minute, frustrated the next, and crying the next. I started tearing up, realized I couldn't see the words through my tears, and told myself to toughen up so I could finish the book! *hehe* This author is amazing and has some of the most beautiful writing I have seen.

This book has reminded me to forgive, love, accept, to hold my kids a little tighter, and to appreciate and enjoy every second I get with my loved ones. I think this is a book everyone should have on their TBR list for sure, you'll love it! I need to read more by this author.

When Marty gets paired up with the girl of his dreams, although she doesn't know his name, for a science trip he would do anything to go. Even if that means stealing a penguin . . .

I thought this book was absolutely adorable and hilarious! Love, love, loved it! My stepson is really excited to read it too. This is the story of how a penguin ended up in Marty's bathroom and you get to go along for the adventure. I would have to ask my stepson if this book is anything like The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, I haven't read them but he has read them all and loves them. It includes snippets from Mary's diary throughout the book which are really funny.

This book was so cute and a lot of fun to read, even for an adult. I know that kids would LOVE this! I would definitely recommend this book! It will show you EXACTLY how much trouble one little penguin can cause.

My Thoughts:

When a man goes missing, detective Buddy McCoy is determined to fit all the pieces together and solve the crime but ends up turning into a suspect himself. Will he be able to find out what happened and keep himself out of trouble or will it remain a mystery?

I was interested in reading this book as soon as I read the description. I like murder/mystery books and I've never read one that was set in the oilfield. My fiance has worked on drilling rigs for many years so I knew I had to give this book a shot. I'm not sure how accurate all of the drilling rig descriptions were, I'd have to have my honey read it, but you can tell that the author has done a lot of research or has quite a bit of knowledge in that area.

This novel has so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. The conclusion actually surprised me which I was happy about because I can normally predict the ending of this type of book. I was also laughing thoughout the entire book which is rare for a murder/mystery story which made it all the better for me. I found it to be very humorous, especially Buddy and his amnesia! *hehe*

I have not read volumes 1 or 2 so I can't compare this book to them but I really liked this one! I definitely look forward to reading more by this author.

My Thoughts:

This story is about a little girl, Katie, who stuttered. You get to go along on her journey to overcome stuttering.

Alright, I am going to first tell you all about the things that I didn't necessarily like about this book. I think the title it too lengthy, it's really a mouthful. I believe that something to the effect of Katie: The Little Girl Who Stuttered or Katie: The Girl Who Overcame Stuttering would have been more catchy. Second, the book was VERY descriptive and goes into detail of every part of her treatment and I found that my children were getting bored while I was reading this to them. For a childrens' book I think they could have changed this to make the book more interesting to kids.

Now for what I did like. I think that this book is great to read to your children if they don't stutter because it teaches them to be more accepting and understanding of people who do. It also shows them that people who stutter are not unintelligent and they should not be made fun of, teased, or bullied because of it. We all know there's a lot of that going around these days! This book would also be great for children who do stutter because it lets them know that they are not alone and there is hope for them to learn to speak without stuttering. So all in all, I liked this book I just think changes could be made to make it more appealing to children.
